ABOUT THE ARTIST
After the residency at Rijksakademie in Amsterdam Joost Krijnen won two of the most prestigious art prizes in the Netherlands: The Koninklijke Prijs voor Vrije Schilderkunst and the De Scheffer art award. For his solo show at the Dordrechts Museum in combination with the De Scheffer prize he showed collages and drawings and a sculptural installation.
In his second solo show at Gallery Mirko Mayer, Joost Krijnen continues with the development of sculpture and installation and shows the first time a selection of new paintings. In clear compositions and lucid colors Krijnen depicts themes that have an uncomplicated appeal at first glance, but are also able to invite the viewer for a darker, or more philosophical interpretation. Depending on your mood, your optimistic or pessimistic thoughts, the works of Krijnen can reveal new truths every single time you look at them.
