Light is only visible to humans in the moment it reaches the eye of the observer. The light that appears white to us consists of seven spectral colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet), which all are visible to the human eye. Light contributes significantly to the design and appearance of any work of art unless it is a pure audio work. 

The painting of Josef Schiefer is characterized by various influences. Impressionist grace combined with the lightness and transparency of Asian painting and drawing styles form their own modern expression.

Photography in the Age of Forgetting. Digital space is full of images of a reality, and in the realm of photography they always portray the past. Digital space is just one part of that reality which we regard as physical reality. 

Daniela Brahm und Les Schliesser Daniela Brahm's series of portraits "What's got into them?" shows Protagonists of the land question since John Stuart Mill. Les Schliesser turns to the subjectively escapist in view of the general situation.

In Micha’s new works, European city streets become his subject as the artist captures a sort of “time capsule” by creating molds in-situ that he later casts in his studio capturing all the elements at the time of mold making.

Following Clegg & Guttmann’ first single exhibition at Galerie Mirko Mayer in 2014 (in collaboration with Galerie Nagel Draxler), we are pleased to announce another show with the artists. The current exhibition articulates a dialogue between two large-scale portraits from 2007 and 2018, depicting influential figures from the business and cultural sectors.

The works of Harald F. Müller show us our relationship to the world of images. The artist does not see himself as a painter and yet reflects the color magicians of the past such as Titian,Cézanne, Matisse, Le Corbusier or Mark Rothko.

The first gallery solo show of Julius Linnenbrink in Germany takes place in the exhibition spaces of Mirko Mayer gallery in Cologne. When working, the focus of the former Katharina Grosse student lies on the process of painting, creating his compositions in the moment in lieu of any guidelines or preset goals. 

Many artists deal with their own or others' identities in the conception of their works or bring it unconsciously into creative processes. The identity of a person is created by processing experiences and is constantly changing through external, internal and stored experiences.

The second solo show Von allen Seiten of Moritz Karweick takes place in both exhibition spaces of Mirko Mayer gallery in Cologne. In his working process Karweick pushed the technical possibilities of firing ceramics to their limits to produce his recent sculptures. For this exhibition he has also transferred his experiences from working with ceramics to cast bronze sculptures, thus creating a new approach to material, light and form.

Light is one of the most universal and fundamental symbols. It is the spiritual and the divine, it is illumination and intelligence. Light is the source of goodness and the ultimate reality, and it accompanies transcendence into the Nirvana of all religious doctrines. Light gives life, truth and knowledge.

Tour Vienna continues the exhibition series with students and graduates of art academies at the Mirko Mayer Gallery. If one compares the pure number of students of the academy in Vienna (over 1500), the academy is quite exactly in the middle between art academies like Düsseldorf (about 600 students) or Berlin (about 3.500 students). During my tour at the „Rundgang“ I noticed a high percentage of international students from all over the world, especially from Germany.

After two successful shows in 2016 and 2017 mirko mayer gallery continues to present contemporary art on the island. With generous support of friends on the island and the municipality of Mykonos we are able to present premium works of artists with international reputation.

If you sidestep, you step sideways in order to avoid something or someone that is coming towards you or going to hit you.

Harald F. Müller, often intervenes himself in the design process of contemporary architecture. In collaboration with renowned architects such as Gigon & Guyer he designs colour concepts primarily for public spaces. The implementation of colour concepts also manifests itself in mobile works, which always show sculptural and spatial aspects that connect photography space and color.

The series "sacred places" features sacred buildings of different types in Europe. These ancient churches, synagogues and mosques remind us of the interwoven history of the religions they represent. "sacred places" is a visual adventure in space, time and light.

"my sculptural artistic practice could best be described as adherence to the concept of continual progress and change. I‘m deeply intrigued by the transformational qualities and possibilities of form, matter, and space. To highlight those interests, I try to create spatial situations that capture growth and change. Sculpture needs to exist in different spaces...." (artist statement)

‍The exhibition the sculptural view investigates and questions the photographic concept of sculpture. Sculptures have been photographed and staged with the camera since the invention of photography. From the pure documentation to the lucky snapshot of a temporary situation, sculptures, components or technical devices appear in the photographs from the Rolf Mayer collection in Stuttgart, which only contains photographs from the 19th century.

Zunächst galt die Arbeit mit dem Polaroid-Material als Proof: Geprüft wird anhand eines positiven Bildes aus einer nahezu gleichformatigen Kassette wie der des Films in der Großbildfotografie, ob die Belichtung stimmt, die Grauwerte und Härteskalen über die Bildfläche hinweg gleichmäßig und reproduzierbar verteilt sind, ob die Komposition der Mattscheibe einem Gegencheck auf Papier standhält.

The depiction of space and time with the help of photography varies from documentation to interpretation to new creation. There are no technical limits any more. Astounding is the selection of photographs in the exhibition photography in space, which are current works by young talents and already well-established artists.

The gallery shows as conclusion of a fantastic year 2018 highlights from exhibitions between 2000 and 2018. A combination of loans from private collections and recent works of artists of the gallery program creates an outstanding show. The body, the face, the character and finally the form of a human being is the spirit of this exhibition.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the gallery Mirko Mayer, the exhibition collection, gallery & friends will be opened on June 12, 2016 with a selection of over 100 works by 50 artists.
